Shakira, Ricky Martin Concerts Benefit Latin Childhood Education

Numerous Latin music artists including Ricky Martin and Shakira will gather next month in both Mexico City and Buenos Aires for two large-scale concerts in support of early childhood development in Latin America.

The concerts, set to take place simultaneously May 17, will be free to the public as organizers seek not to raise money but rather harness the power that comes from bringing thousands of music fans together, according to a press release. Concert organizers Alas (America Latina en Accion Solidaria) hope to improve the lives of children living in poverty by calling on fans, the private sector and governments to join in a social movement to deliver early childhood development programs for all children in the region.

Artists committed to participate include Mana , Alejandro Sanz , Diego Torres , Los Tigres del Norte , and Paulina Rubio , among others. Announcements regarding additional artists, venue locations and individual show line-ups are expected over the coming weeks.
