Sigur Ros sets up American tour for February
Atmospheric Icelandic rockers Sigur Ros have announced details for their upcoming U.S. tour, set for February of next year in support of their recently released album "Takk."
The unusual quartet (vocalist Jonsi Birgisson writes and sings many of the band's lyrics in an imaginary language called "Hopelandic") will devote the entire month to its U.S. swing, kicking off with a Feb. 6 appearance in Portland, ME.
The band plans on hitting spots it missed during its September/October tour of the country in September and October, and also will makee repeat visits to New York and Boston.
"Takk," the band's fourth studio album, was released in September on Geffen Records. According to the band's website, the album was written and recorded over a 20-month period, "a normal period of time, for Sigur Ros at least," said keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson.
"The mood on 'Takk' is more 'anything goes,' singer Jonsi said on the band's website. "We had nothing to lose. We wanted to produce a feeling without trying."
The band has also worked on a large number of side projects since the release of its previous full-length, 2002's "( )," including writing and performing the 65-minute, 60-piece orchestral work "Odin's Raven Magic," which is yet to be released, and composing new music for choreographer Merce Cunningham's dance piece "Split Sides," a chore they shared with Radiohead.
Sigur Ros' musical contributions to "Split Sides" were released on the band's 2003 EP "Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do."
