With a large portion of its summer run complete, Son Volt [ tickets ] has tacked a fall leg onto the remaining itinerary behind the group's new album, "American Central Dust."

The roadwork, which began in July and included a handful of shows alongside Cowboy Junkies, continues Sept. 10 in Nashville. Since last check, 16 appearances have been added to the 28-city schedule, including stops in Philadelphia (9/16), Albany (9/18) and Detroit (9/24), followed by a month-long break. The Americana act will resume the tour with a Nov. 5 performance in Columbia, MO, and continue through the South before concluding with a Nov. 21 show in Chattanooga, TN. Details are below.

"American Central Dust," Son Volt's seventh studio set and first with Rounder Records, hit shelves in July. The new record follows 2007's "The Search."

"Going with Rounder has been a kind of full circle continuum," frontman Jay Farrar posted at the band's website. "The first Rounder person I met with was instrumental in booking Uncle Tupelo [Farrar's former band] gigs years ago."

In related news, Farrar has been working with Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard on a side project based on Jack Kerouac's 1962 novel, "Big Sur." "One Fast Move or I'm Gone," a 12-track set featuring original songs composed and performed by the two musicians, is due in stores Oct. 20, the same day as the related DVD documentary, "One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur."
