Sonic Youth adds to 'Eternal' outing
Sonic Youth has added an additional leg of Western US dates to its itinerary this fall as the band continues to support its latest studio release, "The Eternal."
The seven-city slate picks up where the band's current trek--which continues Thursday night (7/30) in Salt Lake City--leaves off, with the new leg kicking off Sept. 25 in Pomona, CA, and finishing up Oct. 4 in Austin, TX. In between legs, the band will visit Japan for a pair of festival dates, and will then head overseas in late October for a few European shows.
The group's US schedule is shown below; international dates can be found at the band's website.
"The Eternal," Sonic Youth's vaunted return to the indie world, hit stores in June. Produced by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Drive-By Truckers), the album is the band's first effort for the Matador label after recording nine albums for Geffen, beginning with 1990's "Goo." The new set also marks the debut of former Pavement bassist Mark Ibold as a permanent, full-time member of the group.
"We've not had a record in our recent history that's been the subject of nearly as much speculation and anticipation," Matador's Gerard Cosloy said in a February press statement officially announcing the album. "Suffice to say, we're pretty amazed at the way the band delivered something this neoteric while still sounding like, well, themselves. Less of a reinvention and perhaps more to do with a particularly awesome dozen songs."
The band's previous release, "Rather Ripped," surfaced in 2006.
