STS9 launches 'Peaceblaster' volley on headlining trip

Instrumental jam-rockers STS9 ( Sound Tribe Sector 9 ) will get their "Peaceblaster" going this fall as the band moves out on the road again to support its latest studio set.

The five-member group (which was originally based in Georgia, but relocated to Northern California several years ago) is also looking ahead to its annual multi-night engagement at Morrison, CO's Red Rocks, just outside of Denver. The band is playing a number of exclusive "pre-party" and "after-party" shows in the Denver metro area before the two-night Red Rocks run, which kicks off Sept. 5. Consult the group's website for more information.

Following the Colorado shows, the STS9 is looking at an Oct. 22 hometown show in Santa Cruz, CA, to kick off its fall schedule, which is set to hit 23 cities through the latter half of November. Details are below.

"Peaceblaster," only the band's third studio album in a career dating back to 1999's "Interplanetary Escape Vehicle," was released in July on the group's own 1320 label. The creative impetus behind the album was "fueled by the tension of the times," according to STS9.

“America is this beautiful, incredible place, but it has a dark underbelly,” bassist David Murphy said of the record in a press release. “And even on [the new album's] most ethereal songs, there’s a darkness that reflects what’s going on in society--it ain’t all bad, but it ain’t all good.”

“Music measures the temperature of the people,” added guitarist Hunter Brown. “Consumerism and the corporate media have taken us all down the path of cynicism, apathy, and nihilism. If the message on the new record is anything, it’s to blast that s--t.”
