State Radio lines up headlining tour after work on new album
Alt-rockers State Radio will say an early hello to the new occupants of the White House in December before heading out on the road for dates ahead of the band's new album.
The politically active punk/reggae outfit will play a Dec. 26 show in Washington, DC, to "welcome the Obama family to the neighborhood and say BYE BYE BUSH!" according to the band's website. The group will then kick off a headlining outing the following month, beginning with a Jan. 14 appearance in Tucson, AZ, hitting about 25 cities through late March. Dates are below.
The Boston trio, headed by former Dispatch vocalist/guitarist Chad Stokes Urmston and rounded out by bassist Chuck Fay and drummer Mike Najarian, continues to support "Year of the Crow," which hit retail outlets in February.
The record, which follows the band's 2006 debut, "Us Against the Crown," was produced by Tchad Blake (Los Lobos, Tom Waits). The band also released "The Barn Sessions" last year, a package of outtakes and re-workings of material from the debut album.
"The ultimate goal of State Radio is to have people consider what I'm saying as they enjoy the music we create," Urmston said in a statement. "I'm not looking to alienate anyone, but I hope I can enlighten some people."
The band entered the recording studio in early November to work on its third full-length album. Updates on the record's progress are available at a dedicated website set up by the group.
