State Radio makes 2008 'Year of the Crow'
Reggae-rockers State Radio are getting ready for the in-store release of their new album, "Year of the Crow," and will return to the road next month.
But first, the trio will celebrate the new year with a Vermont ski weekend, offering fans a package that includes lift tickets and entry into its Saturday night (1/5) concert. Details are available at the band's website.
US tour dates officially kick off Feb. 22 in Northampton, MA, and stick close to the East Coast and South into March, after which State Radio will jet to Germany for a two-week run. Most shows on the itinerary are all-ages. US gigs are listed below and those overseas can be found at the band's website.
State Radio has been touring the US since early October and recently wrapped a run of Australia. The Massachusetts-based group is supporting its sophomore set, "Year of the Crow," which originally surfaced in November and will hit retail stores Feb. 5. The album continues the trio's signature blend of rock, punk and reggae, as well as its socially and politically conscious message.
"The ultimate goal of State Radio is to have people consider what I'm saying as they enjoy the music we create," frontman Chad Stokes said in a statement. "I'm not looking to alienate anyone, but I hope I can enlighten some people."
"Year of the Crow" is State Radio's second full-length studio album and follows its 2006 debut, "Us Against the Crown." The new record was produced by Tchad Blake (Los Lobos, Tom Waits), who played an integral part in helping the band capture the energy of its live shows, according to its bio. Several songs from the set are streaming at the trio's MySpace page.
State Radio, which is rounded out by bassist Chuck Fay and drummer Mike Najarian, has managed to build a solid following without a major label or mainstream radio.
"We feel very lucky that we don't need to necessarily sign any of our rights away," Stokes said. "As long as people keep believing in us and we feel like we're making a worthy contribution to the movement, we'll keep playing."
