SXSW Performer: Cary Brothers (Nashville, TN)
Cary Brothers introduced himself to rock fans via his song "Blue Eyes," which appeared on the Grammy-winning "Garden State" soundtrack. Instead of parlaying that into a major-label deal, he went the opposite route and started a record company of his own. Meanwhile, he produced young artists such as Joshua Radin and co-founded the Hotel Cafe National Tour, featuring musicians who perform at Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe. The product of his DIY effort is "Who You Are," which has been called a "lushly orchestrated debut" with layers of pop-rock and acoustic folk.
Performing Thursday, March 13, at 11:30 p.m. at The Parish (214B E. Sixth St.).
