SXSW Performer: Envy on the Coast (Long Island, NY)

Envy on the Coast is proudly riding on the coattails of captivatingly honest emo-punk kings Say Anything, and pop melodic-ease masters Incubus. What this amounts to is a fluid rush of passionate outbreaks and sing-along choruses. Vocally, this is more about heartfelt compassion, with less emphasis on witty observations or angst-heavy agitation. It isn't so much about what's being said, as it is how. Lead man Ryan Hunter maintains the magic, while the music provides an adequate backdrop for his fast-paced rants and legato contemplations. The group's debut album, "Lucy Gray," is available now on Photo Finish Records.

Performing Friday, March 14 at 10 p.m. at Habana Annex Backyard (708 E. 6th St.).
