SXSW Performer: Portugal. The Man (Wasilla, AK)

This three-piece dabbles in all corners of rock history--reviving psychedelic, hazy daydream melodies, sparking folk-spirited drum circle trances, powering up synths and drum machines for catchy '00s indie-minded choruses and revving up guitars with '70s gutsy macho-ism and falsetto rock-god vocal prowess. What could seem like an identity crisis actually ends up being a well-woven pattern of experimental sounds and textures. Making all this actually work is the unbridled confidence with which Portugal. The Man attacks all these sonic territories. The band's second album, "Church Mouth," is available on Fearless Records.

Performing Thursday, March 13 at 8 p.m. at Emo's Jr. (603 Red River St.).
