SXSW Performer: Vetiver (San Francisco, CA)

San Francisco-based folkies Vetiver are headed by singer/songwriter Andy Cabic, and often joined by freak-folker supremo Devendra Banhart, as well as a varied cast of others that can include drummers, bassists, violinists and aromatherapists. Not entirely unexpected, given Cabic's and Banhart's chops, the group makes charming, expressive music that sounds great when it sits in the background, but also doesn't lose its shape or cohesion when viewed up close. The group's fourth album (and first under its new Sub Pop contract), "Tight Knit," surfaced in late February.

Performing Wednesday, March 18 at 10 p.m. at Emo's Jr (603 Red River St.) and Thursday, March 19 at 11 p.m. at Radio Room Patio (508 E 6th St.)
