Black Crowes add new layer of 'Frost' to tour plans

The Black Crowes have announced an additional fall concert leg to support the band's forthcoming new studio album, "Before the Frost ...."

Currently in the middle of an early summer outing that continues Tuesday night (7/7) in Des Moines, IA, the second and third legs of the group's massive "Stuck Inside Utopia" tour gets underway Aug. 25 in Vienna, VA, and continues through early December, when the band wraps up the trek with five nights at San Francisco's Fillmore beginning Dec. 1.

Tickets for about half of the band's remaining shows are currently on sale. Most remaining dates go on sale July 10. Consult the Black Crowes' official websitefor full ticketing information and support acts.

"Before the Frost ...," recorded in front of an intimate audience over five nights at Levon Helm's Barn in Woodstock, NY, follows last year's "Warpaint," which was the group's first album of new material in seven years. Produced by Paul Stacey, the new set features 11 original tracks, and is due in stores Sept. 1.

Fans who purchase "Frost ..." will be given a download code for a free companion live album, "... Until the Freeze," which packages eight new cuts with a cover of Stephen Stills' "So Many Times."

"I think we fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of artistic independence," the group's frontman, Chris Robinson, said in a press statement. "Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that we have never done before."

The group--currently made up of brothers Rich Robinson (guitar) and Chris Robinson (vocals), along with longtime drummer Steve Gorman, Sven Pipien (bass) and more recent additions Adam MacDougall (keyboards) and Luther Dickinson (guitar)--returned from a lengthy recording hiatus to release a new album titled "Warpaint" last year.

The band took a four-year break following its previous studio set, 2001's "Lions," but returned to the live stage in 2005 with seven sold-out shows at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. Since then, the group has toured extensively.
