The Residents set sights on North American tour
The Residents plan to hit the road on Feb. 13 in support of their recently released DVD, “Icky Flix” (East Side Digital). The outing will feature the band performing in unison with the DVD’s video footage, according to tour organizers.
Released in January, “Icky Flix” is a 90-minute DVD that contains one hour of the group’s previously released music videos, as well as 30 minutes of new animation and video footage that now accompany previously released songs, according to the group’s distribution company, Ralph America.
The band recorded new versions of all of the songs featured on the DVD, and users can choose to listen to either the new or original version of each song while watching the accompanying video.
Group spokesperson Hardy Fox--a member of the Residents’ PR group, Cryptic Corp.--posted the following statement about the band’s current rehearsals to the band-sanctioned website, RzWeb:
“Just thought I would pop in to say things are going reasonably smoothly. The Residents are currently in 10-12 hour daily rehearsals. The usual rigors of just performing music live have been exaggerated by the need to play the music roughly in sync with video.”
Fox went on to say that, because the DVD is a compilation of the band’s previous works, the group will be playing many of its songs from the past three decades; previous tours have been characterized by concept performances that focus on new material.
The members of the Residents have kept their identities a secret since forming in the late ‘60s. Three members of the quartet perform while wearing giant eyeball masks, and the fourth wears a black, skull-like mask. The group does not grant interviews, and delivers all communications through its Cryptic Corp. organization.
Both West Coast and European outings will follow the initial leg of the Residents upcoming tour, according to Cryptic Corp.
