Tone-Loc returns to the concert stage
Tone-Loc has lined up a string of concerts, the first two of which are set to take place on Thursday and Friday night (7/26, 27). The rapper’s schedule also includes a number of September dates and a sole October performance on Halloween.
Two of Tone-Loc’s early September appearances--Sept. 2 in Portland, Ore., and Sept. 3 in Springfield, Ore.--will find the rapper sharing the stage with Sir Mix-A-Lot , whose own club tour kicks off next month.
In 1989, Tone-Loc scored two massive hits with “Wild Thing" and follow-up single “Funky Cold Medina.” Co-written by late-‘80s rapper MC Young, both songs helped catapult Tone-Loc’s debut album, “Loc-ed After Dark” (Delicious Vinyl), to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart, making it the second rap album in history to top that chart (Beastie Boys’ “Licensed to Ill” was the first).
The less commercially successful “Cool Hand Loc” followed in 1991, after which Loc turned to acting. His resume includes roles in the Fox sitcom “Roc” and in the films “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and “Heat,” and a voiceover in last year’s animated flick “Titan A.E.”
In addition to pursuing his acting career, Tone-Loc is working on a new album, according to a spokesperson. A release date has not been set.
