Trans-Siberian Orchestra sets 'Night Castle' release date, adds tour stops
Trans-Siberian Orchestra has coupled the announcement of the Oct. 27 release of "Night Castle" with the addition of two shows to the massive holiday run revealed last month.
The rock symphony will divide and conquer, splitting the ensemble into two groups for simultaneous treks of the US, beginning Nov. 1 in Council Bluffs, IA, and Youngstown, OH. Since last check, performances in Jacksonville, FL (12/3) and Detroit (12/27) have been added to the schedule, which runs through Jan. 3. Details are below.
Rock producer Paul O'Neill--the composer, lyricist and producer behind Trans-Siberian Orchestra--started the group in 1996 as an outlet for his rock operas, and tapped collaborators Robert Kinkel and Jon Oliva to form the core of the writing team. The players include a hard-rock band alongside a complete orchestra and a large ensemble of lead vocalists who cover everything from rock to classical to Broadway to R&B.
"Night Castle," the outfit's fifth studio set, will hit shelves Oct. 27. The forthcoming album marks the group's first new material since 2004's "The Lost Christmas Eve" and first non-holiday release since 2000's "Beethoven's Last Night."
The two-disc, 26-track set--which will be available for a special low price, according to a press release--will include a 68-page illustrated booklet, complete with story, lyrics and full-color illustrations by artist Greg Hildebrandt.
"This was supposed to come out a few years ago," O'Neill said in a press release. "But we were dedicated to making something really special, and the longer it took, the more pressure we felt to give people the best possible piece of art we could."
Along with its four CDs, Trans-Siberian Orchestra released a full-length live DVD, "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve," in 2001. The band has also assembled all three of its holiday albums and concert DVDs into "The Christmas Trilogy" box set.
