Trashcan Sinatras set US dates, ponder album options

Scottish alt-pop veterans Trashcan Sinatras have kicked off a new round of US shows in advance of their recently-completed album "In The Music," set for fall release.

After a July 19th gig at Southern California's Coach House, the band jetted off to Japan to perform at the Fuji Festival, after which the West Coast run will resume.

The new tour will preview material from "In The Music," which is having some difficulty getting released in the US, according to the band's official website. According to a post dated July 18, label negotiations in the US didn't work out and the band is assessing its options to get the record released, hopefully by the fall.

The album marks the first new release from the band since 2004's "Weightlifting." Some of the sessions took place in Martha's Vineyard, MA., which led to an unexpected guest appearance on the album in the form of Carly Simon. Singer and guitarist John Douglas lays out the happenstance connection in a press statement.

"It was sheer chance," Douglas said. "Producer Andy Chase's parents live up in Martha's Vineyard, and we went up there when we'd finished in New York just to record a few more tracks. Carly lives there, James Taylor has a place there, too--it's a kind of musical hippy vibe. Andy mentioned that he knew her and I said, 'I love Carly Simon'; for me she's just amazing, an incredible songwriter with such a beautiful, distinctive voice, an icon."
