U2 maps return to North America in 2010

U2 has begun laying down plans to bring its massive 360 Tour back to North America next year to hit markets that the band missed on its travels this summer and fall.

In addition to new cities on the trek, which kicks off June 6 in Anaheim, CA's Angel Stadium, the group will return one night apiece to Toronto (7/3) and Chicago (7/6) before concluding the 12-city outing July 19 in East Rutherford, NJ's New Meadowland Stadium. Dates are below.

Tickets for the Oakland, CA; Edmonton and Toronto shows go on sale Nov. 2; additional on-sales will take place throughout November. Check the band's website for complete ticketing information, including pre-sale opportunities.

In addition to the North American run, the band will embark on a new leg of European shows next year, beginning in August and extending through early October. Those dates can be found at U2's website.

The 2010 shows will continue to feature the massive stage set the band has been using over the last year, designed by long-time U2 associate Willie Williams in collaboration with architect Mark Fisher, an "in-the-round" design that seeks to afford every fan in attendance an unobstructed view of the band on stage.

According to TheWrap.com, the "170-ton, $40 million, four-pronged stage [is] so enormous, its overhead so costly," that the band still hasn't broken even on the tour, even after four months on the road in the US and elsewhere.

With shows so far this year in 44 cities, the band has already played before more than three million fans in 2009, according to a press release.

U2 is touring behind its 12th studio album, "No Line on the Horizon," which surfaced in February. The set debuted at No. 1 in 30 countries, including the US, where it posted first-week sales of about 484,000 copies.

The band's concert last night (10/25) at Pasadena, CA's venerable Rose Bowl, in front of approximately 95,000 fans, was streamed live on YouTube. It was the first time the Google-owned video service has streamed a full-length concert live, according to a press release.
