Ultra Music Fest rolls out initial lineup

The Ultra Music Festival will return to Miami's Bicentennial Park next March with an impressive lineup of electronic and dance acts.

So far, organizers of the March 27-28 event have booked first-night performances by Tiesto , Bloc Party, The Ting Tings, Santogold, and drum-and-bass legends Roni Size Reprazent, who will make their first US appearance as a full band in seven years, according to a press release. Artists confirmed for the second night of the festival include Cut Copy, Deadmau5, Crystal Castles, The Presets, Hercules and Love Affair, Simian Mobile Disco and Busy P.

Veteran techno DJ Carl Cox will also return to perform on both nights, and he'll host the Carl Cox and Friends arena with a full complement of special guests. Many additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks, according to organizers.

A limited number of two-day passes are currently on sale for $99.95, and tickets will go up to $129.95 and then $149.95 as the event approaches. Two-day VIP packages are also available for $350. Details are posted at the Ultra Music Festival website.

This year, the electronic-music extravaganza celebrated its 10th anniversary with its largest soiree ever, drawing upwards of 55,000 dance-music enthusiasts from more than 50 countries, according to a press release. The event, which runs in conjunction with the Winter Music Conference, was ranked No. 14 on the 2008 Mid-Year Top 100 Concert Grosses reported by concert trade publication Pollstar.

The Ultra Music Festival--founded by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes--started on the beaches of Miami in 1999 and has grown to include Ultra- and UMF-branded events in Brazil, Spain and the Caribbean. The Miami event expanded into a two-day affair last year with headliners The Cure, Tiesto, Paul van Dyk and Fatboy Slim.
