Yeah Yeah Yeahs add Lollapalooza to summer road plans
Indie rockers Yeah Yeah Yeahs will replace the Beastie Boys as a headlining attraction at this year's Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago.
The move comes after Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beasties revealed his throat cancer diagnosis, which will prevent the hip-hop trio from touring this summer, and will also push back the release date of the band's new studio album.
The Aug. 8 Lollapalooza appearance is just one of a number of big-name festival obligations Yeah Yeah Yeahs have lined up this summer, including a July 31 appearance at Jersey City, NJ's All Points West Festival, and a Sept. 6 slot at Seattle's Bumbershoot. The band will also make a number of headlining appearances at smaller venues over the next few months, starting with a July 28 show in Cleveland, OH. Details are included below.
The band continues to support "It's Blitz!," the New Yorkers' first studio album since 2006's "Show Your Bones." The record was produced by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Arcade Fire) and TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, and features guest contributions from TVOTR's Tune Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, The Bird and the Bee's Greg Kurtsin, and saxophonist Stuart Bogie (Antibalas), among others.
The album's first single, "Zero," hit radio airwaves in February. The song's video is streaming at the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' website, along with the band's most recent single, "Heads Will Roll."
"What was really important in the process of making [the songs on] this record was that we made them in a really conventional, organic way at first," lead singer Karen O told Pitchfork.com earlier this year. "We had no idea that this was going to turn into more of an electronic-sounding record in the beginning. What I like least about electronic music is that there's often an emotional detachment, so it was really important for me to avoid that."
