Yo La Tengo celebrates Hanukkah, sets more 'Freewheeling' dates

Indie rockers Yo La Tengo are once again ringing in the holidays with their semi-annual Hanukkah shows, appropriately running eight nights in December at a New Jersey club.

The concerts, which kicked off last night (12/4) in Hoboken, NJ, feature "an opening band, followed by some comedy, and then a Yo La Tengo set," according to a press release. "And perhaps more," the group adds. Tickets for each performance are $30, with proceeds going to a different charity each night.

Beyond the holidays, the next edition of the band's "Freewheeling Yo La Tengo Tour" kicks off Jan. 9 in Charlottesville, VA. As with previous legs of the outing, the 10 January stops on the trek will feature the group telling stories and answering questions from the audience, ala VH1's "Storytellers," in between offering an "almost-acoustic" set of songs from throughout the band's 23-year career, according to a press release.

The group is supporting its latest album, "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass." The record, which hit stores last September, is the band's 12th studio album and first full-length collection of new material since 2003's "Summer Sun."

Free downloads of two songs from the new album--"Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind" and "Beanbag Chair"--are available at the band's website.

Last year, the group also released "Yo La Tengo is Murdering the Classics," which features live performances that the group recorded during its 1996-2003 annual fundraising appearances at New York independent radio station WFMU.
