Jose Gonzalez set for fall headlining tour

Swedish singer/songwriter Jose Gonzalez , currently on tour with British downtempo group Zero 7 as an opening act, will launch his own 18-city solo tour Sept. 17.

The singer's support stint with Zero 7 continues Thursday (9/14) in Philadelphia before concluding with a pair of shows at New York's Webster Hall over the weekend. Gonzalez has been paired with singer Sia in the tour's opening slot, and both performers have made appearances onstage during the headliner's set during the trek.

Gonzalez's solo run kicks off Sept. 17 in Austin, TX, with an appearance at that city's Austin City Limits festival. The three-day outdoor event gets underway Friday (9/15) and boasts around 130 acts playing on eight stages set in Austin's downtown Zilker Park.

The singer will then launch the headlining phase of his itinerary Sept. 20 in Charlottesville, VA, the first of several shows he'll tackle in the southern states.

Gonzalez's most recent--and only--full-length album is 2003's "Veneer," which spawned a pair of hit singles in Scandinavia and paved the way for his initial breakthrough in the US, an effort greatly assisted by the inclusion of his song "Crosses" on last year's season-ending episode of "The O.C." television show.

"Veneer" was reissued in August of last year by the singer's record label, Hidden Agenda. The Swedish-born son of Argentinean parents also released an EP, "Stay in the Shade," last January.

Gonzalez explained in a press release that he's currently more interested in getting his music out to a wider audience through live performances than in pursuing studio work.

"At some point a window will open up where I can make another record," he said, "which is fine by me--that's the way I like to work. Right now I'm excited to go out and continue touring. Whatever happens, happens. I really feel like I've accomplished a lot more than I'd ever intended."
