Black Rebel Motorcycle Club rides with 'Baby 81'
Following a handful of UK shows next month, indie-rockers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will embark on their biggest North American tour yet.
The San Francisco-born trio will launch the American outing May 5 in Phoenix and make its way across the US, with a few stops in Canada, through mid-June. The Fratellis will provide support on the first handful of gigs, with fellow UK indie-rockers The Horrors taking over from there. Domestic dates are listed below, while UK shows can be found at the band's website.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, which is fresh off a UK tour with The Killers, will spend the majority of 2007 on the road, according to a blog entry at the band's MySpace page. B.R.M.C. is working to support its upcoming album, "Baby 81," which is scheduled to hit stores May 1.
Unlike 2005's folksy, acoustic set, "Howl," the new record leans more toward guitar-driven rock and roll, exploring personal revolt--a familiar theme for the band.
"I think we all took a leap of faith a little bit more on this album, writing more current songs," singer/guitarist Robert Levon Been said in a statement. "We used to hold on pretty tight to new songs, but it kind of feels like people are finally going to hear where we're at right now; we're much more in the moment."
The title "Baby 81" came from the name given to an infant who was hospitalized in the wake of 2004's tsunami and was claimed by nine different mothers before finding its way back home. Along those lines, the album's 13 tracks were born into conflict and represent hope for the future, according to B.R.M.C.'s website.
The set's first single, "Weapon of Choice"--due for release April 16-- is streaming at B.R.M.C.'s website along with the track "666 Conducer."
