Daughtry expands tour behind best-selling debut

Post-grunge rockers Daughtry , who kicked off a major North American tour last month, have added a half-dozen dates to the itinerary, which now stretches through early November.

Cities added to the fold include Evansville, IN; Albany, NY; Erie, PA; Hollywood, FL; and two nights in Newark, NJ. In addition to playing fairs and festivals, and headlining clubs and theaters all over the US, Daughtry has a few more gigs opening for Nickelback . The updated schedule is listed below.

The band, formed by "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry, is supporting its November debut, which climbed to No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has reached triple-platinum status. The self-titled set is the fastest-selling rock debut in SoundScan history and has been acknowledged by the Recording Industry Association of America as the biggest-selling album of 2007, according to a press release. "Daughtry" is also the fifth best-selling digital album of all time, according to the band's website.

So far, the record has spawned the rock/pop/adult contemporary hits "It's Not Over" and "Home," which are streaming at Daughtry's MySpace page along with a couple of other tunes. Earlier this week, it was announced that "Home" has been nominated for Monster Single of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards, the winners of which will be announced Sept. 9.

In the midst of touring, Daughtry will also take time to make the rounds at television, appearing Sept. 12 on CBS-TV's "Early Show" and "Late Show with David Letterman," and Sept. 13 on ABC's "Live with Regis and Kelly."

Chris Daughtry quickly rose to fame last year as a final-four contestant on FOX-TV's "American Idol." After being voted off the show, he turned down an offer to replace Fuel's lead singer and set off on his own career.
