Underoath maps out huge fall tour

Christian metal outfit Underoath launches a lengthy fall tour later this month as the band continues to back its latest studio set, last year's "Define the Great Line."

The Florida-based six-member group kicks things off Sept. 22 in Houston, with 38 cities filling a stacked itinerary that runs through early November. All dates are shown below. Fellow alt-metal acts Every Time I Die , Poison the Well and Maylene & The Sons of Disaster will offer a barrage of opening support on the outing.

"Define the Great Line," Underoath's third studio album and its follow-up to 2004's "They're Only Chasing Safety," hit stores in June last year.

"We went into the studio wanting to make this record count," guitarist Tim McTague said in the band's online bio. "We wanted to make it life-changing for the people who heard it. We knew it had the potential to do well, but we weren't basing our future on that. We feel we've written the best album that any of us will probably ever be a part of and above all else, we're super proud of it."

Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain said on Underoath's website that the band deliberately played down the religious angle for the new set. "I feel like I want people to know we're a Christian band, but at the same time I don't like tacking God or the fact that we're Christian onto something to sell more records. I don't want just to be marketed as a Christian band because I think we go beyond that. Tags can be limiting."

The group recently released its first-ever live concert DVD, "777." According to the band's publicist, the disc sold more than 20,000 copies in its first month on store shelves. The DVD includes footage of several different Underoath tours, including the band's contribution to the Van's Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos.
