Singer/songwriter Josh Rouse is back in North America for a fall tour to support his latest album, "Country Mouse, City House."
The outing launches tonight (9/18) in Denver and stops in US clubs and theaters from coast to coast as well as a couple of Canadian provinces. Along the way, Rouse will play two-night stands in Nashville and New York City, where the tour wraps Nov. 2-3. Details are listed below.
Following the North American trek, Rouse will jet to Europe for a three-week run that starts Nov. 21 in his adopted home of Spain. He'll also visit Portugal, the UK and Ireland. Information about those shows can be found at his website.
The new year will find the folk-pop singer cruising the Caribbean with Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris and a host of other performers. The six-day Cayamo: A Journey Through Song cruise sets sail from Miami Feb. 4.
Rouse's seventh full-length album, "Country Mouse, City House," was recorded over a six-day session in the small seaside town of Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain, where the singer has taken up residence. After last year's "summer" record, "Subtitulo," Rouse wanted to do something with a more "wintery" feel, he explained in a posting at his MySpace page.
The laid-back songs on the set comprise themes of death, isolation, nature, religion and dreaming, he said, adding that his sound continues to draw from the singers/songwriters of the 1970s.
"That's my favorite style of music, so that's what I do," Rouse explained in a statement. "I, and many of the people I work with, am obsessed with the sound and production of the '60s and '70s. Put simply, it just has something that a lot of modern records don't have. Perhaps it's being in the moment, and 'Country Mouse, City House' is just that--a really great moment."
A few songs from the album are streaming at Rouse's MySpace page.
The performer, who previously recorded for Rykodisc and based himself out of Tennessee, started his own record label, Bedroom Classics, a couple of years ago to have more control over his music. Between "Subtitulo" and his current album, he released two EP projects: "Bedroom Classics, Vol. 2" and "She's Spanish, I'm American."
Another project is on deck for early next year, Rouse said.
