The Disney Channel Original Movie " High School Musical "--the sequel to which recently spawned a chart-topping soundtrack album--has made the jump from the small screen to the live stage.
Disney Theatrical Productions, which produced the live-stage versions of "The Lion King" and "Beauty and the Beast," have created a Broadway-style version of "High School Musical" that features "all your favorite characters and songs, together with two brand new numbers performed by a new cast of talented theatrical performers and an electrifying live band," according to a press release.
The traveling production--which is currently playing in Toronto--touches down in Buffalo, NY, next week, and is currently scheduled to make stops in 17 cities throughout the US by the end of next March. The show is scheduled to run for five days in most markets, with a 12-day stint that leads up to Christmas booked in Los Angeles; 13-day runs in both Raleigh, NC, and Baltimore, MD; and a six-day finale set in Des Moines, IA, at the end of next March. The itinerary is included below.
Last year, the original cast of "High School Musical" set out on a traditional concert tour that featured the stars of the film performing music from its triple-platinum-selling soundtrack. The album was the first TV-movie soundtrack to make it to No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart, where it resided for two weeks.
In August, Disney offered up the "High School Musical 2" soundtrack, which debuted at No. 1 and is currently enjoying its fourth consecutive week in the top slot. No word yet on whether "High School Musical 2" will get a theatrical treatment.
