Mike Doughty takes question jar on the road

Former Soul Coughing frontman Mike Doughty has a new solo album in the can and will preview material from the set during a monthlong tour that will get the audience involved.

Doughty will launch "The Question Jar Show" trek Nov. 2 at the South Padre International Music Festival in Texas and then move on to US clubs from coast to coast as well as Vancouver. Two-night stands are booked in Minneapolis and New York City. Dates are listed below.

The singer/songwriter will perform as a duo with multi-instrumentalist Andrew Livingston. Besides introducing new music, Doughty will play requests yelled from the audience and answer questions that fans drop into a jar. No question will be considered too weird and no topic taboo, according to a press release.

Doughty's forthcoming album, "Golden Delicious," is complete and planned for an early 2008 release. The set was produced by Grammy winner Dan Wilson, who helmed Doughty's last album, 2005's "Haughty Melodic." That record peaked at No. 8 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and spawned the Top 5 AAA single "Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well."

Before launching his solo career, Doughty was best known as the frontman of '90s avant-garde rock group Soul Coughing. The band broke up in 2000 and the singer self-released some of his solo material before signing with Dave Matthews' ATO Records in 2004.

When he's not playing music, Doughty writes poetry, plays and blogs (which can be found at his website), and he's also a photographer.
