Modernist classical act The Kronos Quartet continues its latest round of concerts, with tour dates for the revered ensemble stretching well into next year.
The San Francisco-based quartet's next round of shows begins Jan. 18 at Stanford University. All of the combo's scheduled dates are included below.
The group's most recent, iTunes-exclusive release, "Kronos Quartet Plays Sigur Ros," finds the ensemble interpreting the experimental Icelandic band's "Flugufrelsarinn," a song from Sigur Ros' 1999 album "Ágætis Byrjun," along with a version of "The Star-Spangled Banner," a traditional arrangement "inspired" by the 1969 version performed at Woodstock by Jimi Hendrix.
Kronos Quartet gained notoriety in the '80s, first for its 1985 recording debut, "Kronos Quartet Plays Music of Thelonious Monk," and then for its self-titled 1986 set, which featured the group's adaptation of Hendrix's "Purple Haze."
Previous to the Sigur Ros adaptation, the group's most recent studio release was last year's take on Polish composer Henryk Gorecki's String Quartet No. 3, "...songs are sung." The quartet also teamed with post-rock combo Mogwai for the soundtrack to "Pi" director Darren Aronofsky's 2006 film, "The Fountain."
