Mexican folk/rock duo Rodrigo y Gabriela --a.k.a. Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero--have lined up a brief run of US shows next month.
The pair, which features Sanchez on lead guitar and Quintero on rhythm guitar, will launch their headlining run Feb. 7 in Portland, OR. All six dates fall on the western side of the country, winding up with a Feb. 16 show in Austin, TX. Dates are below.
The duo has also lined up an Australian tour starting in March. Those dates can be found at the pair's website.
Rodrigo y Gabriela continue to tour behind their second studio album, a self-titled 2006 affair that was produced by John Leckie (Radiohead, Stone Roses) and features guest contributions from violinist Roby Lakatos.
The folk-influenced duo--who also list metal acts such as Megadeth and Slayer as key influences--include covers of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and Metallica's "Orion" on the album.
Sanchez and Quintero first met as teenagers in Mexico City. Both dedicated heavy metal fans, they played together for a time in the metal group Tierra Acida before moving to Europe in hopes of expanding their repertoire. The pair released their first album, "Re-Foc," in 2003.
