Mark Oliver Everett and his one-man show, Eels , will launch a headlining tour in March behind a pair of new career-spanning compilation albums.
Everett--better known by his stage name, "E"--remains as the sole permanent member of Eels, which has featured a revolving-door lineup since co-founder Jonathan "Butch" Norton left the group in 2003.
E and whoever else is with him this time around kick things off March 28 in Philadelphia. The 13-city outing concentrates on large clubs and small theaters in major metropolitan areas, and winds down in mid-April. Dates are below.
Released earlier this month to celebrate the band's 10th anniversary, "Meet the Eels: Essential Eels Vol. I" is Eels' first greatest-hits album. The dual CD/DVD set includes 24 tracks from Eels' catalog, plus 12 music videos. The album debuted at No. 26 on the UK Album Chart.
Released simultaneously with the best-of set, the 50-song "Useless Trinkets" collects odds and ends and unreleased materials. The package includes a live DVD of the band's 2006 appearance at Lollapalooza.
Everett recently authored an autobiography, "Things the Grandchildren Should Know." The book was recently released in the UK and will hit US shelves later this year.
"I've never liked looking backwards because it's too painful," the singer recently told the UK's Independent newspaper. "But, in a way, that's what made me think I should do it. Whenever I'm uncomfortable with something I try to confront it and get to a point where I can be OK with it. Writing the book was painstaking, but when it was done, I had this feeling of a weight being lifted from my shoulders. I guess you'd call it catharsis."
