Iron Maiden goes 'Back in Time' on expanded tour
British metal veterans Iron Maiden will board their Boeing 757 for another round of North American dates this summer.
The rockers, who have been selling out shows around the world since early February, will take a breather before picking up again in late May. They'll start in Texas and visit several cities in the West before heading to Canada for five shows in June, then it's back to the US for arena dates in the East, including a June 15 stop at New York City's Madison Square Garden. The group's itinerary currently wraps with a seven-week tour of Europe. North American shows are listed below and those overseas can be found at the band's website.
So far this year, the musicians have visited India, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, the US and Canada. They've been able to keep up such a stringent tour schedule because they're traveling in their own jet, piloted by Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson.
The "Somewhere Back in Time - World Tour '08" was inspired by the band's recently re-released "Live After Death" video, which was filmed over four nights at Southern California's Long Beach Arena in 1985. The outing focuses on Iron Maiden's classic material from the '80s; even the stage set is inspired by the 1985 "Powerslave Tour," which featured an Egyptian-style production including the colossal mummy Eddie. The summer trek will bring back Eddie and other elements of the show that have not been seen in many years.
"For this summer tour, we will be able to bring along all of Eddie's toys which we couldn't get on our plane during this first leg," Dickinson said in a press release, adding, "We are all having a great time on this tour and really can't believe the excitement it is creating around the world and the huge numbers of people who are turning out to see us. It makes for a really very exciting time for all of us, fans and band alike."
Iron Maiden is also backing its 14th full-length album, 2006's "A Matter of Life and Death," which reached No. 9 on The Billboard 200.
