Indie rockers Los Campesinos! will mount a headlining tour in May to support their impending debut release, "Hold On Now, Youngster ...," due in the US later this week.
The Welsh band--which has adopted the Ramones-like gimmick of all seven members taking the last name "Campesinos!"--kicks off the outing May 14 in Hoboken, NJ, and is set to hit 19 cities on the trek, which runs through the first week of June. All dates are below.
"Hold On Now," the band's long-playing debut, is due in stores April 1. The disc, which the band recorded last year in Canada with Broken Social Scene collaborator David Newfield, was released in February in the UK and Ireland, and has spawned two singles: the upcoming "My Year in Lists" and the album's leadoff track, "Death to Los Campesinos!"
A streaming video for "My Year in Lists," which will hit stores April 28 as a 7" single with a trio of cover songs on the flip side, can be viewed at the band's website.
Formed in 2006 by seven university students in Cardiff, Wales, the group attracted the attention of UK indie label Wichita Recordings, which put out the band's 2007 EP, "Sticking Fingers Into Sockets," featuring a mild hit in "You! Me! Dancing!," which ranked #72 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.
