Tina Turner expands comeback tour
Tina Turner 's upcoming return to the concert stage has been met with such an overwhelming fan response that promoters have added several more arena shows to the outing.
The initial round of North American dates went on sale May 10 and the first gig--Oct. 1 in Kansas City, MO--sold out in two minutes, according to a press release. The tour now spans 24 shows, including second nights in Kansas City, Boston and Toronto, a third night in the Chicago area and new dates in Minneapolis and Hartford, CT. Details are listed below.
Tickets for the newly added performances in Kansas City, Minneapolis and Hartford go on sale Monday (5/19). The others are on sale now.
Turner, who announced her retirement from touring eight years ago, was inspired to return to the road following her performance at this year's Grammy Awards.
"After performing with Beyonce at The Grammy Awards, the response was overwhelming," the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said in a statement. "Everywhere I went, people were asking me when I was going back on tour. So, after a lot of thought and planning, I can answer the only way I know how ... see you in Kansas City where we'll kick the tour off!"
On the road, Turner is expected to wow fans with a major production and hits spanning her four-decade career, including "Proud Mary," "What's Love Got to Do With It," "We Don't Need Another Hero" and "The Best."
The eight-time Grammy winner released her most recent studio album, "Twenty Four Seven," in 1999. She followed that in 2004 with the greatest-hits compilation "All the Best," which entered The Billboard 200 at No. 2, making it the highest debut of her career, according to Turner's bio.
Last fall, the singer also released "Celebrate: The Best of Tina Turner," a 95-minute DVD taken from a 1999 concert that celebrated her 60th birthday.
