Shinedown rides 'Madness' on summer road trip

Alt-metal outfit Shinedown has lined up a mixture of headlining dates and support shows as the band hits the summer tour circuit behind its new album, "The Sound of Madness."

The Florida-based band continues its current run with Black Stone Cherry and Theory of a Deadman tonight (7/18) in Philadelphia. The outing, which consists mainly of headlining shows, also includes a few festival-type appearances, among those an Aug. 23 radio station promotion in Auburn, WA, with Queensryche, Seether, Sevendust and others.

The group has also slotted an Aug. 2 performance in Oklahoma City, OK, as openers for Stone Temple Pilots. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is also schedule to appear on the bill. Shinedown's complete schedule is included below.

"The Sound of Madness," Shinedown's third studio album, was released in June, debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and moving about 50,000 copies during its first week on store shelves. The album's first single, "Devour," peaked at No. 3 on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock chart.

"It's time to just go over the top, literally go above and beyond what a human being thinks they're capable of recording," frontman Brent Smith told Billboard.com earlier in the year. "We want to do a huge hard rock record that has a lot of crossover potential but also some of the most insanely intense and heavy material that this band has ever tried--and see if we can pull it off."

A deluxe version of the album adds three additional studio tracks, while another song, "Junkies for Fame," debuted via the video game "Rock Band" in June.
