Elton John expands Canadian run

Elton John has added nearly a dozen more dates to his upcoming Canadian tour.

Elton John has added nearly a dozen more dates to his upcoming Canadian tour.

The trek, which is sandwiched between the superstar's ongoing "Red Piano" performances in Las Vegas, is set to kick off Sept. 12 in Calgary, Alberta. Since last check, multiple shows have been added in the provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. An updated itinerary is listed below.

John will wrap his current Vegas run this weekend and resume his residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in late October. Following a pair of mid-November gigs in Uncasville, CT, the singer will ship his larger-than-life "Red Piano" set across the Atlantic for a string of European dates stretching into late December. Those overseas shows can be found at his website.

Last month, John gave his 200th "Red Piano" performance since launching the Las Vegas spectacular in February 2004.

The Grammy-winning performer also recently laid claim to playing every state in the US at least once. His July 21 show in Vermont marked the occasion, and the state's own Ben & Jerry's ice cream company was on hand to celebrate with a custom flavor, "Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road." Proceeds from the limited-edition flavor will be sent to John's AIDS charity, according to a press release.

Last year, John revisited his top hits with "Rocket Man - Number Ones," which comprises 18 songs from the first 35 years of his career. The album accompanied the singer's 60th birthday celebration, which he marked with a record-breaking 60th performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden. That concert is captured on the two-disc DVD collection "Elton John 60: Live at Madison Square Garden."

June saw the reissue of two classic early albums, 1970's "Elton John" and 1971's "Tumbleweed Connection." Each double-disc set is a deluxe edition containing a re-mastered version of the original studio album, plus a second CD featuring unreleased tracks and demos, as well as a booklet with new liner notes, photos and lyrics.
