Bon Jovi put enough warm bodies in the seats this year to earn themselves the title for 2008's top-grossing tour, according to Billboard.
"The foundation of our success was and is touring," bandleader Jon Bon Jovi said in a prepared statement. "Whether it was a night club or a stadium we played each show like it was our biggest show. Our fans have been the reason why a second generation now share in this great honor. We thank you all."
Worldwide, Bon Jovi tallied up $210.6 million in ticket sales and drew 2,157,675 fans, Billboard reported. Those totals kept them ahead of fellow legendary New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen , whose 2008 run with the E Street Band bagged $204.5 million.
Madonna lands in the No. 3 slot with $162 million for her still-in-progress Sticky & Sweet world tour, while The Police follow at No. 4 with $150 million for the second leg of their massively successful reunion--and, as it turns out, farewell--tour. Celine Dion , meanwhile, nabs No. 5 with a grand total of $91 million.
Rounding out the 2008's Top 10 highest-grossing tours are: Kenny Chesney ($86 million), Neil Diamond ($81.2 million), Spice Girls ($70 million), Eagles ($56.6 million) and Rascal Flatts ($55.8 million).
The sales figures are based on data reported to Billboard Boxscore from Nov. 14 of last year through Nov. 11 of this year, according to Billboard.
