Musicians step up for LA sheriff's deputy
Several musicians, including Eddie Van Halen and Paul Stanley, have donated autographed instruments and memorabilia for an eBay auction that will raise money to help cover the medical expenses of Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy Robert Corrales, who is fighting acute myeloid leukemia, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
The autographed items include a drum head donated by Rush 's Neil Peart, a Silvertone guitar donated by Stanley, an Epiphone guitar (donated by the Guitar Center's Dave Weiderman) signed by Velvet Revolver 's Slash, Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan and Dave Kushner, and a drum head signed by Alex, Eddie and Wolfgang Van Halen.
Corrales, who has been a sheriff's deputy for nearly 25 years, was diagnosed with leukemia last April. He reportedly is waiting for a suitable bone-marrow donor.
Ninety percent of the auction proceeds will benefit Corrales and 10 percent will be donated to the T.J. Martell Foundation, which is working toward finding cures for leukemia, cancer and AIDS.
