Jazz/pop trumpeter Chris Botti has expanded his spring tour schedule, and has lined up new dates later this year with the Boston Pops, with whom he first performed last fall.
The popular contemporary-music performer kicks off the spring slate March 31 in Mexico City before heading north for an April 4 show in Atlantic City, NJ. The early year portion of Botti's itinerary consists of visits to 29 cities through early June, including a June 3 date in Boston with the Pops, who will also back up the trumpeter during his Aug. 7 show in Lenox, MA. Details are included below.
Botti's latest release, "Italia," surfaced in late 2007, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Jazz Albums chart and earned a Grammy nomination for best Pop Instrumental Album. The set, which features guest vocalists including Andrea Bocelli and Paula Cole, was inspired by the romance of Italy.
"It really is a beautiful kind of love letter to Italy expressing the longing of someone who's not there," Botti said in his bio. "Italy has a romantic quality about it even for someone who's never been there ... the food, the fashion, the art, the landscape, the way the people live their life."
Last fall, Botti took his love letter to Beantown for his debut with the Boston Pops. Two concerts, featuring guest stars including Sting, Josh Groban, Steven Tyler and Yo-Yo Ma, were filmed for broadcast this spring on PBS-TV's annual pledge drive. A live recording of the performance will be released later this month, according to Botti's < a href="http://chrisbotti.com/" target="new">website, with a DVD expected later in the year.
