Nu-metal stalwarts Static-X return to the road this spring behind the band's impending studio release, "Cult of Static," which hits store shelves this week.
The Los Angeles-based metal quartet, led by iconic spiky-haired frontman Wayne Static, kicks off the trek April 1 in Albuquerque, NM. The trek will crisscross the country for more than a month, hitting 29 cities in all, with things wrapping up May 9 in Reno, NV. Details are included below.
"Cult of Static," the band's sixth studio album, is due March 17. The album's first single is "Stingwray," reportedly a reference to lead singer Wayne Static's wife, Tera Wray, and her Corvette Stingray. The video for the song currently greets visitors to the band's website.
The album was produced by John Travis, who also was at the controls for the group's previous studio effort, 2007's "Cannibal." The new set also features the tune "Lunatic," which sports a guest appearance by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine; the tune previously appeared on the soundtrack to "Punisher: War Zone," which also featured tracks from Rob Zombie and Slayer, among others.
Last fall saw the release of "Cannibal Killers Live," a dual CD/DVD recorded during the band's June 2007 show in Spokane, WA. The 17-song set featured material from throughout the band's career, focusing on newer songs from "Cannibal"; a limited-edition version of the set added a bonus DVD featuring the band's 1997 concert at Los Angeles' legendary Whiskey a Go Go nightclub.
