Cold War Kids ' frontman Nathan Willett and Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard will lace up their running shoes to raise money for charity this month.
The pair, whose bands are on a North American outing together through the end of the month, will record the number of miles they run while on tour in real time, earning money for each mile completed. Fans can pledge their support and contributions at the Run for Water Wells website. The suggested donation is $1 per mile.
The funds raised will benefit Water Wells for Africa, a non-profit founded by Willett's family that installs water wells throughout Malawi in southern Africa. To date, the organization has completed more than 100 wells, providing safe drinking water to approximately 200,000 Malawians each day, according to the charity's website.
"While I'm glad Nathan and I will hopefully raise a good amount of money for a wonderful cause, what I'm really excited about is finally having a running partner on tour," Gibbard said in a press release.
As of last check, Gibbard has logged just over 21 miles, while Willett finished nearly 16 miles.
Death Cab for Cutie released a new EP entitled "The Open Door" April 1 via the band's website. The five-track set will hit stores Tuesday (4/14).
Cold War Kids unveiled the group's second full-length studio effort, "Loyalty to Loyalty," last September.
