Snoop Dogg heads south for spring outing

Snoop Dogg will take his crew out on the road this spring for a run of concert appearances in the Southern US.

The rapper, whose next studio album is scheduled to drop later this year, kicks off the outing May 1 in Jackson, MS. The tour winds around the South through much of the month before concluding with a May 17 date in Hilton Head, SC. In June, the hip-hop icon will make a June 11 appearance at Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo Festival. Details are included below.

Later this year, Snoop and punk-reggae act Slightly Stoopid will hook up for a summer tour. Dates and venues are still pending for the trek.

The rapper announced earlier this year that he had signed an exclusive multi-rights partnership with MTV for the cable channel to distribute, market and promote his forthcoming studio set, "Malice in Wonderland."

The album, which is due to surface in September, follows Snoop's reportedly "amicable" split with Geffen/Interscope, according to an MTV press release. The deal also called for MTV to promote and air the performer's "Dogg After Dark" sketch comedy/variety show, which premiered in February.

Snoop Dogg broke into the Top 3 on The Billboard 200 last spring with his ninth solo studio album, "Ego Trippin'." The lead single, "Sexual Eruption," has been a hit at radio formats including pop, R&B/hip-hop and dance. A sample of that song and a few others from the record are streaming at Snoop's MySpace page.
