More than 40 bands played on Day 1 of this year's Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The big draw cards included Paul McCartney [ tickets ], Leonard Cohen [ tickets ] and Morrissey [ tickets ].

Artists of a younger generation included; Franz Ferdinand [ tickets ], Conor Oberst [ tickets ] & the Mystic Valley Band, The Black Keys [ tickets ], M Ward, Silversun Pickups [ tickets ], Ting Tings, dj Felix Da Housecat and the new British buzz band White Lies [ tickets ].
