Bette Midler has added new fall dates to her ongoing Las Vegas residency, "The Showgirl Must Go On," which recently celebrated its first anniversary.
With the latest additions, the singer's fans will have at least 36 more chances to see Midler in the flamboyant production, which takes place at The Collosseum at Caesars Palace, starting with a fresh run of shows in August and extending through November. The residency is currently slated to resume May 27.
Tickets for the new shows went on sale over the weekend, and are currently available at the Colosseum box office and through Ticketmaster (LiveDaily's parent company).
"'The Showgirl Must Go On' is not only the biggest show of my career, it's the biggest show in the history of show business," Midler boasted in a press release. "I can't believe I've already been in Vegas for a year, but if you haven't seen me yet, get your butt down here. I am giving Sin City a roasting and toasting she'll never forget."
The 90-minute spectacle features a repertoire complete with some of the Divine Miss M's favorite characters, like Delores Delago--the wheelchair-bound mermaid--and Soph, the oldest living showgirl in Las Vegas. It also includes a 13-piece band, 20 female dancers and Midler's backup singers, the Harlettes, performing in front of a glittering, Broadway-style backdrop.
"At first I said, 'It's not me. It's not me,'" the singer told New York magazine last year. "But eventually you have to face it. It is you. This is what you do. You love sparkles. You love showgirls. You love boas and feathers. You love boobs. I'm like a magpie. I’m a sucker for whatever glitters."
In 2007, Midler signed a minimum two-year deal to perform at the $95 million Colosseum, which was built in 2003 for Celine Dion's "A New Day" spectacular. "The Showgirl Must Go On" plays approximately 100 times per year, five nights a week at the 4,300-seat theater, which is dark on Mondays and Thursdays.
