Road-weary Slipknot to tour the U.S. briefly this fall
The members of Slipknot will don their masks and spend the Halloween season on a brief headlining club tour, according to the band’s official website. Earlier this month, the band announced that it was canceling its plans for a larger-scale tour due to exhaustion.
The tour is scheduled to get underway in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Oct. 24. A stop in Ohio, two nights in Washington, D.C. and a Boston date will follow before the group’s Halloween show takes place in New York City. The band then has a final Nov. 1 performance in Philadelphia.
Slipknot had originally planned a full-blown fall outing, but canceled it after a band member reportedly collapsed at LAX airport, and was subsequently told by doctors it was necessary for health reasons to take a break. The members wear masks throughout their performances, and some have reportedly passed out onstage because of the heat and ventilation complications caused by the masks.
The group is using its less-crowded fall schedule to work on material for an upcoming album, according to a statement posted on its website. The group’s self-titled, debut disc--released in June of last year--features the band’s hit “Spit It Out,” and was certified platinum in May.
Slipknot can also be heard on the forthcoming disc "Tattoo the Earth: The First Crusade," set for release on Oct. 24, according to 1500 Records. The disc was recorded at the Tattoo the Earth tour’s July 30 stop in Pontiac, MI, according to the label.
