Alt-rockers Spoon will return to their native Austin, TX, this summer for a three-night run dubbed SpoonX3.
The performances, slated for July 9-11, will debut material from the group's forthcoming album, which, according to a recent Houston Chronicle interview with frontman Britt Daniels, probably won't surface this year.
A 2009 release "could happen," Daniels told the newspaper last week, "but I don't love the odds."
Each evening of the hometown festival will feature special guests, including ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears on July 9; Low and Dale Watson July 10; and Atlas Sound and the Strange Boys July 11.
The presale of three-day passes began yesterday (4/23) at the band's website. General on-sales begin tomorrow (4/25) via Frontgate Tickets.
Spoon's most recent release, "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga," surfaced in July 2007 and peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart.
