Green Day announces on-sales for tour

Green Day has announced the North American on-sale dates for the band's upcoming tour in support of "21st Century Breakdown," which drops later this month.

The tour kicks off July 3 in Seattle before heading to Canada for a few dates. The group will play in 38 cities across North America during the trek, which wraps Aug. 25 in Inglewood, CA. In late September, Green Day will head across the ocean for a lengthy European tour. All dates are shown below.

Tickets for many of the shows go on sale this weekend, and most of the rest, aside from the Inglewood show (which is available beginning June 6), will go on sale the following week. On-sale dates are included in the schedule below.

The pop-punk trio--singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool--are supporting their first album in five years, "21st Century Breakdown," which hits stores May 15. The trio's eighth studio effort, which has been in the works since early 2006, has already spawned the Top 10 single "Know Your Enemy," the album's lead track.

The group performed the forthcoming album in its entirety during a series of California club shows last month.

Green Day's previous studio album, 2004's "American Idiot," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart and spawned five hit singles, has been transformed into a rock musical. Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer will unveil the show Sept. 4 at Berkeley, CA's Roda Theatre. The theatrical story, which will include every song from the 2004 album, runs through Oct. 11. Tickets are available now at the venue's website.
