Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ean Evans dies at 48

Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist Donald "Ean" Evans died Wednesday (5/6) at his home in eastern Mississippi after battling an aggressive form of cancer, according to a statement posted on the band's website. He was 48.

Evans, a native of Atlanta, was asked to join the Southern rock band in 2001 after the death of Leon Wilkeson, according to Evans' bio. He toured regularly with the band until his 2008 cancer diagnosis.

Evans continued to write, record and produce in his off time from Skynyrd. One of his recent side projects--dubbed Evanscapps--was a collaboration with Bobby Capps of .38 Special. Their debut album, "Last Time," is available at Apple's iTunes store.

Evans is survived by his wife, Eva, and two daughters.
