The eighth season of "American Idol" is now down to the final two as the " American Idols Live !" tour approaches.
Danny Gokey got the boot on Wednesday's installment of the Fox reality competition, while Adam Lambert and Kris Allen are still standing. The final three contestants completed two performance rounds on the episode, singing a song selected by the judges for one round and another during which the contestants chose their own material. Lambert belted out U2's "One" per the judges' requests, while Allen was asked to sing OneRepublic's "Apologize" and Gokey performed Terence Trent D'Arby's "Dance Little Sister." For the second set, Lambert selected Aerosmith's "Cryin," Allen went with Kanye West's "Heartless" and Gokey covered Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful."
Gokey, the 29-year-old widower and church music director from Milwaukee, brought in the fewest votes from viewers Wednesday and was eliminated from the competition.
The final two, who recently enjoyed hometown visits after weeks of TV-show quarantine, will vie for the top spot when they perform for the last time next Tuesday (5/19). The results will air live next Wednesday (5/20) in a two-hour season finale that will crown one of the singers the next American Idol.
Gokey will return to the stage, however, alongside Allen, Lambert and the rest of the Top 10 finalists for the "American Idols Live!" tour, which kicks off July 5 in Portland, OR. The 50-city run spreads from the West Coast through the South and Midwest before finishing up along the eastern seaboard in mid-September. The full schedule is shown below.
Joining Gokey, Lambert and Allen on the tour will be Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre.
