New Releases, Oct. 3: Green Day, Radiohead, Paul Simon, more
Green Day returns to the fold this week with "Warning," the first album from the group since its 1997 release "Nimrod." "Minority," the first single from "Warning," is currently No. 12 on industry trade publication Radio & Records’ adult alternative chart, which measures national radio airplay.
To mark the release of its new album, Green Day is scheduled to appear on both the Howard Stern and David Letterman programs on Oct. 3, according to the group’s official website. An Oct. 4 appearance on MTV’s "Total Request Live" is also scheduled, as are subsequent promotional appearances in Boston and California.
The band spent much of the summer topping the bill at the annual Vans Warped Tour, and then went on a headlining tour of Europe. Earlier this year, the group indicated that it planned to kick off a U.S. tour in support of "Warning" in November, though no dates have been announced yet.
"Kid A" (Capitol), the latest from Radiohead , hits shelves this week after being in the can since April. The long delay between completion and release created problems earlier this year when songs from the album were leaked on the Internet.
The album is Radiohead’s fourth, and is the follow-up to the group’s platinum 1997 release "OK Computer." The group’s first album--1993’s platinum "Pablo Honey"--features the breakthrough hit "Creep."
Radiohead is scheduled to appear on "Saturday Night Live" on Oct. 14.
Veteran musician Paul Simon releases "You’re the One" (Warner Bros.) this week, his first album since his ill-fated 1997 Broadway musical "The Capeman." The album features the 10-piece band that toured with Simon and Bob Dylan on the pair’s 1999 co-headlining tour.
Simon has a brief European tour scheduled for later this month in support of "You’re the One," followed by an slightly longer tour of the U.S.
"Indigo Girls: A Retrospective" (Epic) feature 16 songs spanning Amy Ray’s and Emily Saliers’ 15-year career together, including their biggest hit "Closer to Fine," as well as two new tracks. The album's liner notes will feature a detailed, track-by-track commentary by Ray and Saliers, according to Epic.
Indigo Girls kicked off their Honor the Earth tour in Montana on Saturday (9/30).
Travis Tritt unveils "Down the Road I Go" (Columbia) this week. The album is his first for Columbia, with whom he signed after parting ways with Warner Bros. Tritt recently performed at this year’s 15th annual Farm Aid concert, which took place in Virginia on Sept. 17.
