Depeche Mode 's Tour of The Universe will resume on June 8 in Leipzig, Germany, allowing time for lead singer Dave Gahan to recover from a recent operation to remove a low-grade malignant tumor in his bladder, according to a statement on the band's website.
As previously announced, several dates on the tour were postponed or canceled after Gahan was hospitalized with what was thought to be a severe bout of gastroenteritis. Further tests revealed the cancerous tumor, which was successfully removed. At doctors' orders, Gahan must rest for a few weeks before resuming the tour in Germany.
The band's May 30 show in London will be rescheduled and a new date is expected to be announced shortly. However, Gahan's health forced the cancellation of DM's performance at the Pinkpop Festival in Landgraff, Netherlands. Other affected shows include June 2 in Hamburg, which now will take place July 1; June 4-5 in Dusseldorf; and June 7 in Leipzig.
DM fans are being encouraged to hold on to their tickets for the canceled shows. The band expects a final decision to be made early next week, at which time a statement will be issued with regard to either a rescheduled date or final cancellation.
Additional details and updates can be found at the band's website.
